Bio
Hi, I’m Alex. I’m a cognitive and industrial-organizational psychologist who’s fascinated by expertise and the cognitive processes that support exceptional performance. I have three major research interests: 1) individual differences in complex skill acquisition, 2) academic achievement and educational interventions, and 3) intelligence, with a focus on problem solving, attention control, placekeeping ability, and working memory.
I use a range of statistical and computational approaches in my work, including meta-analysis, meta-regression, multigroup structural equation modeling, multilevel modeling, and drift diffusion modeling. I also enjoy scientific writing, and have written popular press articles for outlets such as Scientific American, Slate, and The New York Times. Over the past few years, I have served as webmaster and Associate Editor for the Journal of Expertise, a peer-reviewed journal with no fees for authors or readers.
